Gareth Nealโsย two ebonized oak cabinetsย pay homage to historic design through new innovations in wood carving technology. These unique pieces build upon the designerโs longstanding interest in referencing Georgian furniture styles. Inspired by forms across the history of design, Neal combines CNC technology and three-dimensional computer drawing with traditional techniques in wood carving to create unique contemporary interpretations of historic works. The George Low Cabinets reflect Gareth Nealโs unique approach to design.
Featured in public and private collections worldwide, Neal has both literally and figuratively shaped a new era in design and craftsmanship. Currently, Neal is collaborating with Zaha Hadid on a line of innovative sculptures inspired by ancient vessels. Nealโsย 5-Drawer Georgeย was part of the critically-acclaimed exhibition, โAgainst the Grain: Wood in Contemporary Art, Craft, and Design,โ hosted by the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, NY; the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and the Bellevue Arts Museum in Bellevue, Washington. Hisย George IIIย Chestย resides in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. In 2016,ย Big Georgeย was exhibited at the distinguished Winter Antiques Show in New York, NY.
