Yard Sale Project, Palombaggia Table, UK, 2013
The Yard Sale Projectโs Palombaggia table pushes the limits of the traditional table form. The pictured asymmetrical table, on view now, is comprised of an astonishing array of twenty-six different hardwoods, intricately tessellated to give the table its unique pixelated quality. The process by which the individual pieces of wood were combined is unique to Yard Sale Project and has been applied throughout their body of work. The table is finished using the shou-sugi-ban method, an ancient Japanese finishing technique that preserves wood by charring it with fire. In addition to being aesthetically striking and elegant, the charring of the wood renders the table rot, pest, weather, UV light, and fire resistant. Todd Merrill Studio began representing Yard Sale Project in 2011. Ian Spencer and Cairn Young together form Yard Sale Project, a unique force of talent in the world of design. Yard Sale Projectโs one-of-a-kind pieces of wooden furniture combine Youngโs highly accomplished technical designs with Spencerโs master craftsmanship.
As Yard Sale Project works on a commission basis, custom versions of Palombaggia tableย may be commissioned.
