Stefan Rurak has recently completed a custom built in service / dry bar to be installed in a recently renovated New York City penthouse. Using both his unique case pieces and his mixed media paintings as a frame of reference, the commanding unit is as dynamic as it is functional. Concealed behind doors faced in his sleek painterly planes of steel and heavily impastoed expressionist concrete compositions is a fridge, wine storage, with additional space for liquor, bar ware, and linens. Visually, the work marries elements of minimalism and abstract expressionism. Rurak’s unique vision and process stems from a diverse range of media while merging fine art aesthetics, modern conceptual design, and traditional, hand-made craftsmanship techniques. Working with a variety of materials – wood, cast concrete, and steel –  Rurak draws no distinction between art and design, creating both purely aesthetic and fully functional work conveying movement, action, or intuition.
