Using ceramic surfaces as both her canvas and subject matter, Molly Hatch extends her historically-inspired contemporary repertoire with Verse, a hand-painted wall installation. Highlighting the visual brilliance of an eighteenth-century Chinese textile, Verse is a gilded deconstruction of historic pattern.Composed of 54 earthenware hand-painted plates, the glazed surfaces collectively become a fragmented canvas for Hatch’s delicate, painterly re-rendering. The gold that distorts and eventually overpowers the original fabric pattern creates a new experience of familiar motifs.

In the past decade, the name Molly Hatch has become synonymous with contemporary ceramics.  Hatch’s ceramic installations, inspired by historical decoration, have been exhibited and collected all over the world and garnered her a loyal and fervent following.
