Pair of Fiber Art Panels by Sheila Hicks, USA, ca. 1970.ย These works are representative of Sheila Hicks’ best, each a collection of linen strands bound by tightly wound silk threads. Strong interplay of colors, including brilliant blue, purple, and red, with soft whirls of the linen fiber escaping the silk bindings.ย Hicks is an internationally recognized artist, with a pair of degrees from Yale University. While traveling throughout South America as a Fullbright scholar in 1957, she developed an interest in working with fibers. This interest has blossomed into an incredible body of work, with pieces held in most major museums, and countless private collections, and a reputation as the worldโs foremost textile artist. In 2011 the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia presented โSheila Hicks: 50 Yearsโ, the first major retrospective to honor Hicksโ work.
