Withย Fragment,ย Sophie Coryndon masterfully explores the exquisite nature of honeycombs using 23.5 ct gilded cast acrylic polymer, preserving the fragility of its source material. Coryndon, who says that natural forms are always at the heart of her work, became interested in bees after reading about the rising detrimentย facing the insects around the world today. Employing centuries old techniques with innovative materials Coryndon manages to capture theย jewelry-like delicacy of the abandoned โ€œghost-ship hivesโ€ in unique works of art.

Sophie Coryndon combines traditional decorative arts techniques with modern innovation. Material and process driven, she employs multiple disciplines including bronze casting, painting, embroidery, and sculpture to capture elements of the natural world, rooted in historical aesthetics.ย โ€œBasically, Iโ€™m drawn to craftsmanship in any form, especially dying crafts,โ€ says the artist, โ€œBut I like to take those things and re-imagine them.โ€

Inspired by close observation, Coryndonโ€™s work illuminates what is often overlooked.ย ย Her enthusiasm for the organic intricacies ever-present in the macrocosm drives her tenacious ambition to transfigure the microscopic into the monumental. This practice of maximalism fosters her desire to, as she states โ€œtake things further, make them larger, make them grander, right to the point of lunacy. Insane beauty is what Iโ€™m ultimately after.โ€

As Coryndon works on a commission basis, custom works may be requested.
